A Shining Star at the 35th Annual AACA Venice Car Show: The 1953 Buick Skylark
At the recent 35th Annual AACA of Venice Car Show, one car in particular caught my eye—a stunning 1953 Buick Skylark. As I was driving toward Centennial Park on Venice Island, this bright red convertible stood out like a gem among the sea of white and grey SUVs. I instantly hoped I’d see it again at the show—and get the chance to photograph it.
Sure enough, there it was, tucked into the east corner of the park. Even among a field of incredible classic cars, the Skylark drew attention like a princess at a ball. Its detailing was impeccable, and it radiated a special charm that stopped me in my tracks. Over the years, I’ve seen many beautiful cars, but this one—this one truly moved me.
At every show I attend, I photograph standout vehicles and highlight one in particular that excels in both visual appeal and detailing. This Buick was easily the “Shine of the Show.”
I had the pleasure of speaking with its owner, Mr. Dennis Esken—a kind and passionate gentleman. He shared a fascinating bit of history: the car was once part of a collection owned by heiress and car enthusiast Tammy Allen.
Naturally, my curiosity was piqued. After a little research, I found that Tammy Allen is well-known in the classic car community. Her impressive collection has included many rare and vintage automobiles, and this very Skylark was once part of it before being auctioned through Barrett-Jackson.
