Car shows aren’t just about chrome, horsepower, and polished paint—they’re events that bring people together, sparking conversations and shared memories across generations. And when they’re held at assisted living communities, they offer a unique kind of joy for both residents and car owners alike.
I recently had the pleasure of attending a car show hosted at Elison Assisted Living in Venice, Florida. The weather couldn’t have been better—clear skies, warm sunshine, and just enough of a breeze to keep things comfortable. The turnout was impressive, with a lively mix of classic car owners, residents, and friendly talkative guests.

There was something for everyone: rows of eye-catching vintage and modern vehicles, upbeat music floating through the air, and a laid-back atmosphere that encouraged friendly conversations. A shaded refreshment stand, thoughtfully set up under the carport, served snacks, sodas, and everyone’s favorite—hot dogs—thanks to three cheerful young ladies who kept the crowd well-fed and hydrated.

One of the most rewarding parts of the day was chatting with the residents. Many were excited to share their own stories tied to the world of automobiles. Judy, for instance, lit up when talking about her beloved 1970 Dodge Charger R/T SE, reminiscing about the power and thrill it once delivered. Dave fondly remembered his Chrysler station wagon, which he and his wife always kept immaculately clean and showroom-ready. These weren’t just cars—they were cherished memories on wheels.

It was heartwarming to see how much joy a simple afternoon event could bring. Laughter, music, memories, and mutual appreciation for beautiful machines made it more than just a car show—it became a meaningful moment of connection.
All in all, it was a fantastic day. I left Elison with a full heart, reminded once again that great stories often begin with a spark—sometimes, that spark is an engine starting up.
