1953 Buick Skylark ~ Tammy Allen Collection

Recently at the 35th Annual AACA of Venice Car Show a lovely 1953 Buick Skylark graced the show with its presence.

I happened to catch a glimpse of the car on my drive to Centennial Park, downtown Venice Island. It truly stood out among the moving traffic, a bright shiny red convertible among the white and grey SUV’s. I’m hoping to see it again at the shows and get a photo of it.

There it was up in the east corner of the park and even among the all those gorgeous cars it stood out. Beautifully detailed and standing there like some lovely princess. Many times over the years I have come across cars that just moved me. This though, was a very special car.

At every car show I take photos and report on the events. I also choose to highlight a car based on its detail job and based on its being photogenic. This car was it, the “Shine of the Show”.

In speaking to its owner, Mr. Dennis Esken a very nice gentleman, he told me this car was once part of a collection belong to heiress Tammy Allen.

As a car buff that got my curiosity and therefore I did some research here is what I found:

Tammy Allen is indeed a car collector and this car was once part of her collection. Allen loves collecting cars, especially old-school automobiles. This beautiful car was part of her collection and was sold by auction through Barrett and Jackson.

If you would like to know more about her, about how she came to be involved Car Collection hobby read more https://htowndaily.com/tammy-allen-net-worth-her-car-collection-income-and-more/

Thank you Dennis for sharing her with me and the 12,000 attendees. She is beautiful.

I always used wax products to get a great shine but today I recommend a you use a ceramic coating such as Cerakote Paint Sealant. I purchase all my detail products through eBay

AACA Venice Celebrated its 35th

The AACA celebrated 35 years of the best in motoring Southwest Florida. This event gives attendees a close up look at hundreds of historical vehicles with gorgeous shines.

The Boss ~ Gause Garage

This was an annual award-winning event. It was held on March 30th this year at the picturesque Venice Island Centennial Park. It was perfect. The park is surrounded on both sides by streets styled in the European Venice way. Great Restaurants and Great Shops.

There were over 350 gorgeous classic cars 12,000 visitors, food trucks, music, and a large family oriented crowd. The event crews were efficient and the show went off smoothly.

By 7am some cars were already there. The place was abuzz with activities. The event crews were directing traffic, the award booths were being set up, the DJ Van and its crew organizing their playlist, the judges were having conferences, and cars were pulling into the parking areas. As for the cars already parked, their owners had their detail sprays and rags out for last minute shines.

Event Crew hustling around

There were over 300 gorgeous historical cars. All set out in different makes and models. Mustangs here, Mopar there. Rolls here,Model A’s there.

It was very much a family event and because of all hard work by the event managers and crew it was a delight for all who attended.

As the crowd grew there was the hum of Chatter in the air. The chatter was a happy sound of Classic Car owners with their “people”.

The first two cars I opened my camera for were two old favorites of mine. A 1972 BMW 2002 TTI and 1970 Jaguar XKE ….. What a start!

So many great car with so little time

        1. The attention to the detail shine
        2. How photogenic the car is

Are you wondering how they get their cars so shiny?
Likely they find that ceramic paint sealant is best.

This is my recommend ceramic product:

If you still are using wax here is my recommendation:

While Chasing Classic Cars IV

                                                     “Walt”

While visiting the Carlisle Show over the weekend I enjoyed a pleasant side trip. Friday being cold and miserable so I decided to visit the Antique Auto Museum at Hershey. I have been trying for sometime to encourage the Museum to add the cars they are selling to my web site. Hurray for bad weather!

The Museum is amazing and full of excellent autos. Best of all, I met Walt. Walt Weidner a 93 year old volunteer attendant and car buff aficionado.

The museum picked the perfect volunteers. Walt and Dennis, another attendant, were not only cordial they were very knowledgeable. Both had been involved with Classic Cars for many years and both were glad to share their knowledge with visitors.

Not only was I able to enjoy some great cars, I got an automotive history lesson as I went along taking pictures and writing notes.

Allow me tell you about Walt.

Walt is 93 years old, lives at an assisted living facility and volunteers at the Museum. Truly he is 93 years young. He brags about being at the Museum before any of the cars. He was there during the building’s construction in year 2000.

Walt has always had a love affair with cars. Over the years, he has restored 4 cars bringing them back to museum quality.

His cars were a 1975 Bricklin. What’s a Bricklin, you ask? Walt informed me that these were Canadian built. The most difficult part of the restoration was the winged Doors. His other beauties are a 1927 Franklin, a 1931 Franklin and a 1938 Graham. Good taste Walt!

Spending time with Walt, you will find out all kinds of Classic Car Historical tidbits.

For example did you know that:

1. Did you know that the 1931 Cadillac Town Sedan had unique windshield wipers? These wipers were on a cable system and clean the windows in a back and forth motions.

2. Did you know the 1914 Jefferies Truck was the first vehicle with 4wd and 4wheel brake systems? These were highly sought after vehicles by the French and Russian Governments during WWI.

3. Did you know that the 1924 Moon had a hardwired light mounted on its dash board that could be pulled out of the car and it reached all around the vehicle to act as a trouble light?

Walt shared these as well as many other details as we walked the Museum. The coolest thing about Walt is that he has written a book titled “6 Unfamiliar Cars & Their Stories.” He assured me that I would love the book and all proceeds benefit the AACA Museum here at Hershey. Soon, he hopes to have his second book completed. Of course, he teased me a bit by telling me that this book will reveal a very little known fact. It will reveal which car company made a profit during the great depression.

Walt, I am waiting.

While Chasing Classic Cars, I have found another gem. The Hershey AACA Museum and its best antique, Walt Weidner. Do yourself a favor; make time to tour this museum. Oh yes, make sure to say hello to Walt.

Is that Car Classic, Vintage, Historic, Antique or Exotic?

The definitions of Classic, Vintage, Exotic, Historic, Antique cars is a well debated subject matter with no clear winner.

For example The Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA), one of the largest and probably the most stodgiest, noses in the air club, has proclaimed that an antique car is at least 25 years of age or older currently functioning and restored to comply with the manufacturers original specifications. Of course with passing years that definition has been refined to include several classifications of vehicles. So even they can’t make up their minds.

In most circles the term antique is most often used interchangeably with the term classic when talking about older vehicles but some like to point out what they consider to be differences. In some circles it is and in some it isn't.

The Department of Motor Vehicles in most states have their own terms for what they consider an antique vehicle. Most do not agree with AACA in that they issue antique or historic license plates to any vehicle more than 25 years old. The owners of these cars can purchase less expensive insurance than they pay on a new car with mileage limits of course.

Here at "All About Detail Classic Car News" we have our own opinion. We think that all cars are a form of art. Some like the Chevy Chevettes are more like pictures to put on Grandma’s refrigerator where as a Bugatti Type 51 should be on display at the Museum Of Modern Art Exhibits (MOMA). Anything that belongs in an art gallery, for reasons of pure beauty or due to their historical value, are to us  Masterpieces and therefore are Classics.

Unlike AACA we include Exotic, Clones, and Custom within the definition of Classic Car:

1929 Pontiac

1991 Lamborghini Diablo
